ABOUT UMBA
Umba was thought up by founder Edward Winter during his years working in Africa, a boutique online shop to support local Maasai communities by exporting & selling some of their beautiful creations. Since its creation Edward has moved on from his roll in helping to run Kenya bases Animal Rights Reserved Foundation & Kongoni Game Valley, but plans remain in place to return soon & ignite some old supply chains.
In the mean time, keeping things more local we have decide to open the shop up to sell some of the wonderful things we come across while helping to furnish our clients homes. With friends, clients & contacts all over the country we find our selves in the dusty woodland flea markets of Southern France, to the derelict Chateaux’s of Brittany. Or perhaps it’s a car boot sale in Sussex or Village Hall jumble sale in Devon, there are beautiful pieces everywhere, of which we’ll snap up, restore and showcase online, sell in one of our short lets, or take a stall on Portobello Road. So watch this space.
At the end of every year 20% of all shop profits will go to Charities close to our hearts & in relation to acquired goods, eg www.animalrightsreserved.com , www.maasai-association.org , www.wwf.org.uk , www.rugbyportobello.org.uk
See below a collection of some beautiful pieces, like old trucks, copper kitchenware & brass taps & door knobs, sourced from our national or international travels.
